Formosa Foods approached Forme to refresh the packaging for its range of noodles and pastries. Already an established supplier to restaurants and grocers around the South Island, the business was looking to grow its retail presence, reaching more mainstream supermarkets and expanding further into the North Island. The existing packaging was an untapped growth opportunity, undermining the quality of the product and blending in with similar products from competing brands. We established a completely new direction for the brand, creating a bold and distinctive system designed to build collective brand awareness, whilst also making each product instantly recognisable. Bright colours differentiate products across the range, whilst bold typography, playful custom illustrations and Chinese characters create cohesion and strengthen recognition of the Formosa Foods brand.

Beyond visual impact, the packaging hierarchy brings important product information to the forefront. New Zealand-made provenance and “No Preservatives” become the prominent messaging and quality communicators while clearer product naming and cooking information make the packaging easier for customers to navigate and use. The result is a packaging system that retains the character of Formosa Foods while giving the range a much needed crucial refresh. This work has enabled Formosa Foods to generate greater shelf-presence and move into a wider retail market.
